Creative Communications is the Company run by Chester’s Town Criers, David and Julie Mitchell, who are the world’s first husband and wife Town Crier partnership.

Chester is the only destination in Britain to boast of regular midday proclamations in the summer months Tues – Sat, May to August, at the High Cross at noon.

Chester’s Criers are a focus for press and broadcast media. For example Japanese broadcasters NHK spent four days in Chester filming David and Julie’s activities for a TV documentary. The resultant programme has been shown three times on Japanese television.

David was the Town Crier in the Granada TV production of ‘Moll Flanders’ and in the film‘24 Hour Party People’ with Steve Coogan.

David was placed third in the World Town Crier Championships in 1999.

David is a Fellow of the Britannic Guild of Toastmasters

Julie was the highest-ranking female Town Crier at the 1999 World Town Crier Championship. She was also 2nd winner at the 2002 LCTC British Championships.

Julie is believed to be the world’s only Lady Beadle.
Historically the Beadle’s duties included not only responsibility for the workhouse and apprentices, but also for protecting the Mayor during his public appearances.

Julie is an historical costume-maker and has made costumes for 15 British Town Criers, one Australian Crier and one Japanese Bell Captain. Her ‘liveries’ have won international prizes including Best-Dressed in the Australian National Championship (1999).

David and Julie are also Town Criers of Frodsham and Knutsford respectively. They are jointly Town Criers for the Borough of Vale Royal and for the City of Lancaster.
